Susan DeCarlo-Piccirillo, MS CRNA
Susan graduated with an MS from Columbia University in 1985. She has served as program director for the EMMC School of Nurse Anesthesia, the head for EMMC anesthesia department, and chief nurse anesthetist for the Spectrum Medical Group.
She is currently clinical coordinator for the University of New England, Biddeford, ME, where she is also an academic instructor of anesthesia.
Susan is the mother of two children, ages 10 and 12. She enjoys skiing, tennis, swimming, hiking, gardening, and reading.
James A. Husson, MS CRNA
James graduated with honors from the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he received his master of science degree in anesthesia. He earned his CRNA diploma from Eastern Maine Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia and his RN diploma from EMMC School of Nursing.
Today, Jim is married with two grown children. He enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, and working with computers.
Jim serves the community as an Eastern Maine board-certified basketball and baseball official and as a dedicated volunteer with the Little League program. He also maintains the hiking trails at a local Boy Scout reservation.
Nancy Gause, CRNA In 2008, Nancy marks her thirtieth year at Eastern Maine Medical Center, with nearly 20 years as a CRNA. She loves clinical anethesia, especially neurosurgery, pediatrics, and bariatric surgery. She is the chief CRNA at the Eye Center of Bangor.
Nancy says, "It is my passion, as the board chair of Nurse Anesthesia of Maine, to help manage our company so that it provides exceptional career opportunities and fulfilling lifestyles for the people and families who rely on us."
When she's not working, Nancy enjoys her time as a horseperson with her daughter Kathryn and sailing with her husband Bob.
David Hessert, MS CRNA, NAMe President and CEO
David has lived in the Bangor area all his life, except during his ten-year stint with the Air Force. He graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 1979, from the Air Force Squadron Officers School in 1984, and from the Air Force Nursing Service Management School in 1986.
In 1993, he earned his master of science degree in nursing anesthesia from the University of New England, where he is an associate professor serving on the clinical faculty. David worked as chief anesthetist for Spectrum Medical Group and has been the chief CRNA for Eastern Maine Medical Center since 2003. He also serves his professional colleagues as a member of the board of directors of the Maine Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
David is a dedicated dad to his four grown children and loving Papa to his grandchildren. A rowdy field hockey and basketball fan, he enjoys golf, swimming, boating, carpentry, playing piano — and wit.
Sandra Gale Serpell, MS CRNA
Sandy earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Husson College, Bangor, ME and her master of science in Nurse Anesthesia from the University of New England in Biddeford.
She was born in the Province of Quebec, Canada, and has been a U.S. citizen since 1984. As the recruiter for Nurse anesthesia of Maine, Sandy says, "It's both interesting and rewarding communicating the benefits of working for a CRNA-owned company and living the Maine lifestyle."
A member of Maine Audubon, Sandy enjoys the flora and fauna of nature and spends time in her own perennial gardens. She also travels widely, recently visiting Newfoundland and French Polynesia. Other interests include hiking, cross-country skiing, working with stained glass, and reading good novels.
Paul Healey, CRNA
Paul graduated with his nursing degree from Auburn School of Nursing, Cambridge, MA and then worked for seven years at Boston City Hospital.
He received his CRNA education at EMMC School of Nurse Anesthesia from 1984-86 and developed special interest in chest and vascular anesthesia.
A second-degree blackbelt in ju-jitsu karate, Paul also enjoys speaking French and playing the drums.
He and his wife Kath have two teenage daughters, Erin and Sarah, who can occasionally be found for sale on eBay.
Gary Moretti, CRNA
Gary has 27 years of practicing anesthesia right here in River City. He is the co-founder of Partners in Health, a nonprofit volunteer outreach program that sends medical teams into third-world areas. He has participated in missions to Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic.
When not in an operating room, Gary can be found on his lobster boat Rosie or on telemark skis. A documentary filmmaker with a passion for music and the arts, he owns Rotten Rosie Records and Independent Films. He also enjoys fine dining and cooking. Gary describes himself as a very young grandfather and an avid University of Maine hockey fan.
Jenny Rullo, CRNA
Jenny is a graduate of the EMMC Registered Nursing Program, Class of 1978, and the EMMC Registered Nurse Anesthesia Program, Class of 1983.
She has served as chief CRNA at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, ME and as staff CRNA at Mount Desert Island Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Spectrum Medical Group, and Nashua Memorial Hospital.
She enjoys spending time off with friends and family and has many outdoor interests, including boating, tubing, skiing, camping, kayaking, and hiking.
Barbara Wing Snow, CRNA Barb is a 1980 graduate of the CMMC Registered Nursing Program and a 1987 graduate of the EMMC Registered Nurse Anesthesia Program. She worked as a nurse anesthetist at St. Joseph Hospital, Spectrum Medical Group, and EMMC before joining NAMe. Barb's outside-of-work interests include hiking, bicycling, travel, music, ballroom dancing, and spending time with her Golden Retriever, Mr. Bear.
